This 2023-2024 season, our Wrestling team was able to reach outstanding success. Led by their captains (Senior) Chris Ryer, (Junior) Trever Laymance, (Sophomore) Joseph Roberts, (Freshman) Jaxx Goldsmith, and girls’ captain (Junior) Natalie Klepper, each and every one of these student wrestlers should be proud of their hard work and accomplishments. Sending one of their best junior wrestlers Erick Diaz to state, with fellow wrestlers Rio Molver, Joseph Roberts, Christopher Ryer, and Landyn Jones as alternates, it’s clear many of our wrestlers hold great talent. Our girls wrestling team’s captain was a first year wrestler Natalie Klepper who despite getting injured shortly into the season, helped guide her team and ended this year with a record of 5/10. Natalie notes that, “Wrestling is one of the hardest sports I’ve ever done, it’s extremely rewarding and I love being part of the team.” Top wrestler Christopher Ryer has been wrestling for the Granite Falls High School for a couple of years now and has shown great improvement over the seasons. Ending his senior year wrestling season as a team captain and with a 30/10 record, he was a role model and leader to his teammates. Other top wrestlers alongside Chris are Joseph Roberts, with a final record of 27/13, and Rio Molver, with 25/12. When asked to share a favorite and memorable memory from this past season Sophomore Joseph Roberts said, “…when Chris was 5 pounds over the day before state weigh-ins, we had to make a (homemade) sauna in the bathroom.” Congratulations to all of the GFHS wrestlers on an amazing season!
