The ending to the entertaining playoff run our girls had, has come to an end. And contrary to the looks of the score the girls played their hearts out and had something to be proud of. The playoffs started with our Tigers clinching the 5th seed in the playoffs and gaining a 1st round bye, their first game was against Bear Creek and sadly took a loss of 32 to 39 but luckily went to the lower bracket to try to fight back up. Their second game was against University Prep and we flew by this round winning 42 to 38 advancing them to the next round. The next game had its challenges and its highlights, this intense game with South Whidbey decided who would go to the winner-to-state game so for us to have a chance to go to state we had to win this game. The girls didn’t disappoint and won the game 40 to 35, with a great effort the road was just beginning with the toughest opponent possibly in the playoffs being Lynden Christian. The girls basketball team did the best they could and we should all be proud of them. They lost 77 to 6 but the effort was there and they played their hearts out. The girl’s season sadly ended but not without a great fight. They deserve a lot of praise for their effort and I know we all can’t wait for the next season.
Moving on to a better note we had to award holders on the team, Addy Haverfield making second team all-conference, and Aubrey Boisen making a strong honorable mention. Addy also led the team with a 7.3 MVP score and the second-leading scorer with 8.4 points/game, right behind Audrey Boisen with 9.3 points/game. No doubt our team could’ve gone to state with leaders of stats all around the team and with great chemistry. A little unluckiness on the schedule didn’t discourage them though, the team decided to fight and see what they were made of and sadly didn’t get the fairytale ending but it made for a memorable season.
