What IS the Painted Rock?

The Painted Rock is a literary and art journal that accepts pieces from everyone in this school! If you are passionate about -

Art (I.e. Paintings, Sketches, Ceramics)

Fiction / Short Story creative writing

Self-experienced non-fiction (meaning it carries more personal ties than just a document talking about something)

Rhyming / Non-rhyming Poetry

Original Song Lyrics (This is pretty out there, but if it's your jam, a lot of professional literary journals take them!)

- and you want the school to see your work, you can submit it here and we'll print it in our journal a few weeks later! You can submit either with your name or anonymously, so don't worry about being embarrassed by such a large crowd reading it.
What are my deadlines and when can I expect to receive feedback?

The official deadline for unedited work is May 16th.

If you want to receive feedback, the editors will get your piece back to you by May 23rd.

The final deadline for edited work that has finished the feedback phase is May 27th.

How do I submit my work?

Submit your work by email, either to Mr. McCabe ([email protected]), Mrs. Hamilton ([email protected]), or to Madison Simpson, our current Painted Rock editor ([email protected]). You should also contact them for feedback on your submissions later on.

Are there any restrictions to what I can write about?

For the most part, no. You do have to keep it school appropriate, and some topics may not be allowed to be printed, but you're mostly given free reign over what you can publish! If you have any questions as to the specifics of what is and is not allowed, email Mr. McCabe at ([email protected]) or Mrs. Hamilton at ([email protected]).
