Mr Williams is in his 6th year of teaching the band class. He grew up in Wenatchee for a part of his childhood, although he was born in Yakima, and then later moved to California and stayed there for 5 years. Then he went back to Wenatchee all the way through his secondary school. That’s where he discovered his passion for music and band.
In highschool he discovered his passion for long boarding and small passion for pole vaulting along with track and field. He loves to do what he’s doing with his life now. In fact, he thinks he may even “ love it a little too much”. He does everything he can to make the band better every second of the day and he loves doing it. He also said he “can’t imagine doing anything else”.
To him, being able to interact with people who have a shared goal is one of the best things about teaching band. If there was anything he could change in general it would be to change the general understanding of people and showing them what it really means to teach a band class and how it’s fun but not the easiest thing to accomplish. He wishes to see people at band competitions and really feel the music and understand the effort being put into the music.
One of Williams’ goals is to give his students the same feeling he got from when he was in band in high school. He wants to make them feel like they are in a community that shares the same common goal and that they should encourage themselves to keep pushing forward even when things aren’t looking not good.
Mr. Williams’ words of encouragement are: “Don’t be hesitant on doing things for the first time”. If it weren’t for Mr. Williams’ brother, he wouldn’t have met the amazing people that are in his life today.
