As of this year, many Granite Falls High School clubs aren’t visible to the general student population. As a result, they have had minimal engagement over the past few months, leading to a decline in participation and missed opportunities for students to get involved within the school.
In our new series, Ghost Clubs, we aim to raise awareness of clubs that are no longer active (like the GSA, for example) and those that have flown under the radar for a long time, such as the Dungeons & Dragons club.
One example of a club that has ceased to exist is the EcoCAR Club. About ten years ago, the EcoCAR team traveled to Indiana during spring break to compete in a race at nationals in a car that they built themselves, and they finished fifth! Sounds like fun, right?
Clubs like EcoCAR don’t just let you race; they also help you gain skills in engineering, technical fields, leadership, and more. The same goes for the D&D Club, a small group of just over a dozen members who have a ton of fun while building teamwork and math skills as they battle monsters together. We also will be covering clubs that, for one reason or another, aren’t as involved as in past years―like FFA, FCCLA, and FBLA―but more on that later.
Clubs are a great way to find friends and be more involved in our community, so we all need to be a little more effort in getting involved.
