This past weekend marked our town of Granite Falls’ long-time tradition of Railroad Days. While this year’s parade seemed to resemble many of the past, if we take a closer look, we can see that this tradition is growing with us. Even within the walls of our school, we can see a change. Most notably is that, rather than doing our conventional one-float for-each-graduating-class rule, we alternatively went with one united float for the four grades. While the school ended up taking up less room in the parade this year, in the end, the float really came together to shine as one of the most colorful rides in the line-up.
With all four classes working to achieve one mission, it would be easy to get disorganized, but with the help of our amazing class advisors working tirelessly every day after school, they managed to pull everything together. Not to mention the dedicated students including Makayla Herb and Arwen Morgen, both seniors, in their tireless effort in decorating. And, of course, we cannot forget about our Granite Falls High School Band who gave it their all in performing their own rendition of “Eye of the Tiger,” followed by the cheer team, who hyped up the crowd along the way.
Amazingly, this year’s theme ended up matching perfectly with the weather this past Saturday, “The Four Seasons” really came through during the course of the day. The parade goers were praying for the sunshine, and though it didn’t come out immediately, we were all pleasantly surprised to feel the last bit of autumn sun during the later hours of the event. All in all, this year’s Railroad Days was definitely a hit and hopefully it always will be.
