If you didn’t get to see the GFHS spring play this year, then you missed out on a wonderful production. For the 2024 spring play, the theater students chose to do a rendition of Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility. Upwards of 2 hours (but it only felt like 30 minutes), this romantic comedy was full of joy, drama, laughter, and heartbreak. All of the students acted their hearts out, and their hard work showed. This play was a family favorite, as people ages 2-70 were found in the stands of the PAC on the nights of April 19th and 20th.
Sense and Sensibility was set in late 18th century England, where two sisters, Marianne and Elinor Dashwood (played by Rhiannon Crockett and Eleanor Graves), are out of money, and don’t want to lose their place in society. So what is the solution? Find husbands of course! Elinor and her love interest (played by Owen Elliott-Mitchell), are both blind to the fact that they’re in love with each other, while one of Marianne’s main love interests (played by Drew Dollarhide), ends up playing her, and breaking her heart! But throughout this emotional rollercoaster of a story, it all ended up okay. Marianne ends up marrying a lovely suitor (played by Gabe Ritchey), and Elinor ends up with the man she loved all along.
The 2024 spring play wasn’t just fun for the audience, it was fun for the cast members too! Senior Rhiannon Crockett (who played Marianne Dashwood) tells how, “the play was a really amazing chance for me to play a character who I normally wouldn’t compare myself to. It was challenging at times, but the payoff was definitely worth it. Being in theater has been a rewarding experience, and one of my favorite parts of high school.”
We are so excited to see what the future holds for the GFHS theater, and can’t wait to see what they do next!
