For today’s spotlight, we have another special teacher. Mr. Sean McCabe, who hails from all the way from Connecticut! Our beloved teacher Mr. McCabe has lived in Lake Stevens for about 10 years now. He also has children who go to school in Snohomish, which to him is “pretty cool,” because gets to see how different communities operate. Speaking of communities, since Mr. McCabe is part of the Granite Falls School District as a teacher, that means he has many things to worry about, such as making sure everything is up to date and graded on time – and that’s completely aside from being a father and a coach.
Living up to all these tasks and expectations is most certainly not easy, so when asked how he balances everything without hesitation, he said: “I worked in the construction field for years, and I often managed many projects at a time, which included the purchasing of the materials and managing time and people. After a while, it kind of becomes second nature to manage all these things at the same time.”
Even though there’s a lot of stress in being a teacher, he still enjoys what he does everyday. Mr. McCabe truly enjoys seeing our students grow and change, and loves watching them achieve the best versions of themselves. The only time when there isn’t sunshine and rainbows for Mr. McCabe is when winter break arrives, because grading and also spending time with family is hard to do simultaneously. He usually tries to take about 20 to 30 mins grading and gives feedback to each student – multiply that by 100+ students, and that’s a lot of work! Besides that, Mr. McCabe has been up to any challenge the school has thrown at him, which makes him one of the more hardworking teachers the Granite Falls School District has (every teacher is hard working, but arguably, Mr. McCabe works extra hard).
Now getting into the good stuff: sports. Mr. McCabe is a baseball guy. He enjoys watching baseball and teaching it, and if that isn’t cool then I don’t know what is. His favorite thing about baseball is that it’s a sport you can see yourself growing in, while also really seeing how those results can improve the team’s performance.
Now some words of wisdom from McCabe himself: “Stay true to yourself. You’ll get pulled in so many different directions, and some people want you to be who they want you to be. But at the end of the day, staying true to yourself and who you want to be is the most important thing.” Truly inspiring words if I do say so myself.
Well folks, we’ve reached the end of our spotlight unfortunately. There is still so much to say about our great teacher here, but not enough room to say it all! Luckily there’s just enough room to add one of Mr. McCabe’s goals: he wants to write a book someday, but ideally multiple because it wouldn’t be enough to satisfy never ending creativity and love for writing with just one book. So there you have it – this has been Sean McCabe from New England, also known as Mr. McCabe the English Teacher here at Granite Falls High School!
