We all know Chris McDonald as our beloved hall monitor, but that’s not all he does. Chris also coaches shot put for track, lineman for football, and he is the assistant coach for our wrestling team. Recently, Chris won the ‘Assistant Coach of the Year’ award for the Emerald Sound Conference, which he is very proud of. Out of the three sports Chris coaches, he said wrestling is the sport he wanted that award for.
While Chris loves all his sports equally, he feels wrestling is his number one sport. He believes that wrestling is unlike any other sport, in the sense that you build dedication and an unmatched work ethic. His love for coaching comes from seeing his athletes keep getting up and trying again, even after a devastating loss. He loves seeing them progress as they move through their 4 years of high school, and seeing them stay with the sport is very special to him. In addition, the memories these athletes gain from simply being a part of a sport is something Chris really enjoys about coaching.
A piece of advice he gives to students aspiring to become greater athletes is to just compete. Whether a wrestler wins or loses, it doesn’t matter nearly as much as them showing up. No one will ever be able to take the ability to compete, and that is the best way to get better. We are so proud of Chris and all he does for our school. Congratulations on winning ‘Assistant Coach of the Year!’
